British Culture: My Hero Of Comedy – Colin Crompton – The Comedians

MANCHESTER COMEDIANS.

George Colin Crompton (22 June 1931 – 24 August 1985) was an English stand-up comedian.

Crompton was born in Manchester, Lancashire, and found fame on the Granada Television programme The Comedians in the early 1970s. In later life Crompton bought and ran a pub called the Birch and Bottle in Whitley, Cheshire. He died of lung cancer at the age of 54. He was survived by his three children, Cheryl, Erica and John.

There are comedians who lift our spirits and make us feel good inside they are called comedians then there are those who make a living calling themselves comedians who like to shock us and make fun of people who cannot defend themselves; some people must find it funny as Louie C.K., Sarah Silverman and even Rick Gervais his enjoyment is making fun of fat people now he has lost all his weight and keeps his good side open for the love of animals the furry kind.

Louis CK Dead Bodies & Perversion

I just do not get it the holocaust dead babies and poor people are the pinnacle of their comedy. It takes a good education a good insight and the realization that making people happy is a good quest in life as for those who did not have those advantages they get laughs anyway they can by shocking and their thrill comes from the bully mentality that hits the audience.

Nothing will change of course that is the way of the world but that does not mean I can’t talk about it.

British Culture: Paul O’Grady

Paul O’Grady, 2008

“I’ve frequently been asked over the years who Lily Savage was based on and I’ve always answered that it was no one in particular and she was just a figment of my imagination. The truth, I realise now, is that Lily owes a lot to the women I encountered in my childhood. Characteristics and attitudes were observed and absorbed, Aunty Chris’s in particular, and they provided the roots and compost for the Lily that would germinate and grow later on.”

Paul O’Grady, c.2004 The Paul O’Grady Show: 2004–05

“I just want the show to be like a party, a group of pals gabbing away about the first things that come into their heads. There are always enough things in life to worry and get depressed about. I want my show to take our minds off all that stuff, even if it’s only for a while.”

“I don’t rehearse, but I do research. If I’ve got an author on, I’ll always read the book. I think that’s the least you can do rather than just reading the researcher’s notes. I suppose I do so much research because I really love television. That’s why I work in it. I’m passionate about it and I always have been.”

Paul O’Grady Live: 2010–12 Paul O’Grady on why he quit his chat show, 2012.

“I felt I was part of the PR machine. There was so much interference. They’d want this guest or that guest. Every question had to go through the lawyers. I was just another plug for someone’s book or film.”
