British Culture:Fry And Laurie Reunited

Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English comedian, actor, writer, presenter, and activist. After a troubled childhood and adolescence, during which he was expelled from two schools and spent three months in prison for credit card fraud, Fry secured a place at Queens’ College, Cambridge, where he studied English literature. While at university, he became involved with the Cambridge Footlights, where he met his long-time collaborator Hugh Laurie. As half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie and also took the role of Jeeves (with Laurie playing Wooster) in Jeeves and Wooster.Fry married comedian Elliott Spencer in January 2015. Fry is on cordial terms with Prince Charles, through his work with the Prince’s Trust. He attended the Prince’s wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005. Fry is a friend of comedian and actor (and Blackadder co-star) Rowan Atkinson and was best man at Atkinson’s wedding to Sunetra Sastry at the Russian Tea Room in New York City. Fry was a friend of British actor John Mills. His best friend is Hugh Laurie, whom he met while both were at Cambridge and with whom he has collaborated many times over the years. British Culture:Variety Shows and laughs.

We like people just the way they are when it comes to entertainment. The faces are unchanged and so are their bodies, there is rarely Ken or Barbie we loved the Roly Poly’s dancers on the Les Dawson Show they were so much fun and because they danced a lot they began to lose weight so that became a problem. Being eccentric is just a part of life in Britain. Even New’s Casters on TV have their own character. Once they all spoke in a real posh voice that soon changed and all the accents from around Britain began to be heard.

People are allowed to be themselves the culture is so different to the USA I really missed the difference like the Good Old Days Show Les Dawson – The Good Old Days (1983)  here are a few fun comedians Larry Grayson in The Good old Days 1976.

The Good Old Days is a BBC television light entertainment program produced by Barney Colehan which ran from 1953 to 1983.It was performed at the Leeds City Varieties and recreated an authentic atmosphere of the Victorian–Edwardian music hall with songs and sketches of the era performed by present-day performers in the style of the original artistes.  Hilda Baker in “The Good Old Days”18/3/1976   Good Old Days Show   Hinge & Bracket on “The Good Old Days” (First Appearance)

The audience dressed in period costume and joined in the singing, especially “Down at the Old Bull and Bush” which closed the show. The show was compered by Leonard Sachs, who introduced the acts with great hyperbolic aplomb from a desk situated at the side of the stage. In the course of its run it featured about 2,000 performers.

Eartha Kitt The Good Old Days 16th April 1972  Each show was up to an hour long. All acts were in the style of late Victorian/Edwardian stage acts.

The Wurzels are a Scrumpy and Western band from North Somerset, England, best known for their number one hit The Combine Harvester and number three hit I Am A Cider Drinker in 1976.

The Great Freddie Starr

Freddie Starr funny interview on The Alan Titchmarsh Show – 2nd March 2009

Alan Titchmarsh started as a TV Gardener and people loved his charm.  Alan Titchmarsh’s Summer Garden | How to Feed Your Plants | Waitrose

Starr was born in Huyton, Liverpool, England.[2] Under his birth name, he appeared as a teenager in the film Violent Playground in 1958. In the early 1960s, Starr was the lead singer of the Merseybeat pop group The Midniters. The group was promoted by the manager of the Beatles, Brian Epstein, and was recorded on the Decca label by Joe Meek, the record producer of the single “Telstar”. During this period Starr performed in nightclubs in Hamburg and was an acquaintance of the Beatles.

Freddie Starr.

Freddie is a great singer but in his act he preferred to make us laugh but this time he let us hear him sing.
Starr gave an interview to the Herald Express, the local newspaper for Torbay in Devon which was published on 20 July 2007. In it he says that his father was violent and broke both his legs, a claim which does not appear in his 2001 autobiography Unwrapped. He says that he was taken away from home for two years at the age of six after his father beat him up. In Unwrapped, Starr gives speech problems as the reason he spent two years away from home as a child.

The healing power of laughter

For people living with cancer, it may seem strange to find humor when facing such serious issues. Yet, laughter can be helpful in ways you might not have realized or imagined.

Laughter can help you feel better about yourself and the world around you. Laughter can be a natural diversion. When you laugh, no other thought comes to mind. Laughing can also induce physical changes in the body. After laughing for only a few minutes, you may feel better for hours.

When used in addition to conventional cancer treatments, laughter therapy may help in the overall healing process.

According to some studies, laughter therapy may provide physical benefits, such as helping to:

Boost the immune system and circulatory system
Enhance oxygen intake
Stimulate the heart and lungs
Relax muscles throughout the body
Trigger the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers)
Ease digestion/soothes stomach aches
Relieve pain
Balance blood pressure
Improve mental functions (i.e., alertness, memory, creativity)
Laughter therapy may also help to:

Improve overall attitude
Reduce stress/tension
Promote relaxation
Improve sleep
Enhance quality of life
Strengthen social bonds and relationships
Produce a general sense of well-being.
