Danny La Rue passed away 31/05/09. He will be sorely missed by everyone who met him. Danny La Rue was the biggest, and highest paid star in the U.K. His caricatures of the female legends he portrayed are spectacular. No other performer has ever reached the heights Dan did.

In the 1980’s my husband and I went to see the most extravagant fabulous show in London England. In the UK we are used to men dressing as women maybe it comes from Shakespeare’s time when only men played all the parts.

Danny La Rue, OBE (born Daniel Patrick Carroll, 26 July 1927 – 31 May 2009) was an Irish born British singer and entertainer, particularly in stage and Theatre known for his singing and cross-dressing performances.

He was appointed OBE in the 2002 Queen’s Birthday Honors List. La Rue later stated in an interview that this was “the proudest day of his life”.[9] Other accolades included Royal Variety Performance appearances in 1969, 1972 and 1978, Variety Club of Great Britain Showbiz Personality of the Year (1969), Theatre Personality of the Year (1970), Entertainer of the Decade (1979) and the Brinsworth Award from the EABF for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment profession and the community.[10] In 1987 he was King Rat of the show business charity the Grand Order of Water Rats.
